Wealth Stored for the Righteous-Part 8

We continue to meditate on the wealth that is being stored up for us, and continue to meditate on the blessings which God has graciously bestowed upon us, which we are enjoying, right now.

I can’t help but think, and this is being totally “human,” about taking the time and effort to do something for someone, or give someone something to bless them … and, they don’t appear to be grateful. Maybe they don’t even say “Thank you.” How does that make us feel?
Another note of strong honestly to add: When we give someone something, and they don’t even acknowledge it, don’t even tell us thanks … How exited are we to do anything else for them? I think you get the idea. I know … I know … when we do something for Jesus’ sake, even if it is to just give a drink of water to someone in His name … we are not doing it for the person receiving the gift, but we are doing it to honor Jesus …
And, our reward doesn’t come from the person we are blessing … it comes from Jesus …

However … let us always be grateful for what Jesus has already done for us … what we already have, which He has given us … and … please … let Him know we are grateful! Last chapter, I mentioned that I had the verses on prayer from Mark 11:23-24 taped up directly in front of me on my desk. Just to the left of that paper, I have this hand-written on a post-it note:
“The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”
Psalm 126:3

I am glad … I want Him to know it, too, and I don’t mean this selfishly, but yes, I do want Him to continue to bless me … And, you, too.

I also try to read all I can about the promises of God contained in the Bible. About how He has blessed others, knowing that He is still capable of blessing one more person!!! Or … a whole group of people!!! Of course, I will always encourage you to read the Psalms, but don’t stop there! I just studied that there are over 1,000 prophecies in the Bible. The study was to show that a “prophesy” means a promise which God made about something that would happen in the future. Over 1,000 promises! It was written that the chances of just 17 of those promises coming to pass is one out of 450 billion x 1 billion x 1 trillion! That’s way over my head, math-wise, but I do know this: Not a single one of God’s promises has failed! Not a one! So … won’t you trust His promises today?

I’m always concerned about what we “fill our head” with, and about who we “hang with,” basically what or who we allow to influence our thinking. Remember that if something influences our mind … it influences our life … and, it influences our future … and, the future of those around us … those in our lives whom we have influence with …

Why not fill our minds … meaning fill our lives … with the promises of God? I write and I write about how it is ok to remind God of His promises … He wants you to remind Him! Remember … it’s not so that He won’t forget … He doesn’t want you to forget!

Let’s see … if you want to be successful … just find out what successful people did, and “do what they do/did, think like they do/did” … Even people who don’t know much about the Bible know that Solomon is considered the wisest man who ever lived.

I encourage you to read King Solomon’s prayer from 1 Kings, chapter 8.
Solomon was the son of King David, and, from his deathbed, here is part of King David’s charge (command) to Solomon, written in 1 Kings, chapter 2. David’s first command was for Solomon to “be thou strong therefore, and show thyself a man” (verse 2). Kids today … grownups today … “everyone” today seems to have an idea of how to “show themselves a man.” This seems to be such a big issue at a time when “he disrespected me!” is such a huge call to violence …
Let’s see … David is considered to be the greatest King ever in history … the young man he is speaking with, on his deathbed, giving instructions on how to “be a man,” would become the wisest man who ever lived … Looking for “secrets of success?” Fathers out there wanting to know how explain to their sons how to “show themselves a man?”

Here it is … in big, bold letters, men: “… keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies … that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest … That the Lord may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee a man on the throne of Israel” (verses 3-4).
I’ll say it: There were men that would come, who would “sit on the throne of Israel.” What happened? When these men stopped “showing themselves as men” as in the example given by King David to Solomon … the blessings of God, simply put, stopped … and God was forced into performing His Word … the promises of what would happen if these men kept His commands … and, what would happen if they didn’t.
Period.

Man repeatedly rejected the promises of God … not realizing-even that their unbelief-would also “kick in” the fulfillment of the promises of God. And, when the nation of Israel rejected Jesus … a direct descendent of King David, who had done more than anyone who ever lived to “show himself a man,” when He was rejected … Sadly, it set the stage for even more promises to be fulfilled …

Let’s repeat: “If you want to be successful … just find out what successful people did, and do what they do/did, think like they do/did” … Got it!

Not only was Solomon considered the wisest man who ever lived … he is also regarded as the richest man who ever lived … Got it!

So, when King Solomon dedicated the Temple … here is part of what he prayed: “Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel … And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart … so that (only if) thy children take heed to their way … have respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication … to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee today … Blessed be the Lord … there hath not failed one word of all his good promise … The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers …That all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and there is none else … On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed (thanked) the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the Lord had done …”

So, now we know what a successful son must do … a successful leader must do … a successful nation must do … in order for a son to continue to be successful … in order for a leader to continue to be successful … and, in order for a nation to continue to be successful …

Got it!

Blessings,
Richard. Vincent. Rose.

Commercial Salute: Our Freedom and “The Empty Chair”

A friend, who is also Retired Military, sent me this video of a commercial presented by the Guinness Brewing Company.

So many things to be thankful for … not just this week, not just for one day … but, for every day. To be thankful for our freedom, is to be thankful for, and to, our veterans. And, to those on active duty across the globe today. They don’t choose where or why they are sent … they just choose … beforehand … to go …

It seems so appropriate that the nationally recognized day of Thanksgiving comes during the same month of the nationally recognized day to honor and salute our Veterans. Thanks to our men and women who have served, and serve today, think of the freedoms we enjoy, and, please, never stop thinking about it, and the ones who make it possible to continue.

“God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it.”
Daniel Webster
“No man is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless he be vigilant in its preservation.”
General Douglas MacArthur

I checked on the background of this commercial, and discovered it first aired for the July 4th holiday … However, I had never seen it, so it was brand new to me … and, perhaps, for some of you. Even so, I’ve watched it many times, and I still “feel” it. One of our principles is that, if something touches and moves me, it would touch and move someone else. This commercial is a great example.
Don’t worry … I really did have to think about sharing this one, based upon the source. But, I considered who and why it was sent to me … and most importantly … I considered what was being advertised here: Patriotism.
I don’t think we can thank our military, both active and retired, enough.

Perhaps the music used is familiar to you. In checking the story of the commercial, there were certain people who were angry with the choice.

As I stood in class this morning, at attention, listening (and following along) as a Second-Grader recited the Pledge of Allegiance, I admit I was thinking about this commercial and what it represented … and, as I always do … at the “under God” part, I added, “Thank you, Jesus.” So, I’m not offended by the choice of music in the commercial … I must say, in an add way, to be honest, I’m glad I recognized it. That was something else I am grateful for.

The title, “The Empty Chair,” is also the title of one of the most touching, and haunting, and heart-wrenching songs to come out of the Civil War.
I’ll try to find a performance, and the words, for you.

Please enjoy this salute to those we honor, this week, and every week:

Blessings,

Quotes: John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton- “Lord Acton”

Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Among all the causes which degrade and demoralize men, power is the most constant and the most active.

And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that.
And remember, where you have a concentration of power in a few hands, all too frequently men with the mentality of gangsters get control. History has proven that.

By liberty I mean the assurance that every man shall be protected in doing what he believes is his duty against the influence of authority and majorities, custom and opinion.
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end.
Liberty becomes a question of morals more than of politics.
Authority that does not exist for Liberty is not authority but force.
Liberty is the prevention of control by others. This requires self-control.

Liberty is not the power of doing what we like, but the right to do what we ought.
Liberty is not the power of doing what we like, but the right to do what we ought.

The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern: every class is unfit to govern. It is easier to find people fit to govern themselves than people fit to govern others.
A wise person does at once, what a fool does at last. Both do the same thing; only at different times.
Learn as much by writing as by reading.
At all times sincere friends of freedom have been rare.

Limitation is essential to authority. A government is legitimate only if it is effectively limited.
Limitation is essential to authority. A government is legitimate only if it is effectively limited.

Men cannot be made good by the state, but they can easily be made bad.
Government rules the present. Literature rules the future.
Moral precepts are constant through the ages and not obedient to circumstances.
There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it.

Opinions alter, manners change, creeds rise and fall, but the moral laws are written on the table of eternity.
Opinions alter, manners change, creeds rise and fall, but the moral laws are written on the table of eternity.

Bureaucracy is undoubtedly the weapon and sign of a despotic government, inasmuch as it gives whatever government it serves, despotic power. Bureaucracy tries to establish so many administrative maxims that the minister is as narrowly controlled and guided as the judge.
Towns were the nursery of freedom.
The will of the people cannot make just that which is unjust.
It is bad to be oppressed by a minority, but it is worse to be oppressed by a majority.
A public man has no right to let his actions be determined by particular interests. He does the same thing as a judge who accepts a bribe. Like a judge he must consider what is right, not what is advantageous to a party or class.

There are many things the government can't do ... it must leave them to the enterprise of others. It cannot feed the people. It cannot enrich the people. It cannot teach the people.
There are many things the government can’t do … it must leave them to the enterprise of others. It cannot feed the people. It cannot enrich the people. It cannot teach the people.

Shared Email Stories: Thank You, Lord

Dear Lord:

Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, thank you, Lord, that I can hear.
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you, Lord, that I can see.
Many are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, thank you Lord, that I have the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short, thank you, Lord, for my family.
There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced, thank you, Lord, for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job often is hard, thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work.
There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest,
Thank you, Lord, for life.

Special, Urgent Prayer Request: For Carol

I am asking all of our friends around the world to pray for my beloved Carol.

I am asking because I know that you will.

Carol had an emergency eye exam yesterday, Friday, because she has lost vision in her right eye, due to a sudden condition in her retina.
Because it was so late in the day, the earliest appointment she could get with a specialist was on Monday, August 5th. She needed a specialist who could also do surgery, if necessary …
The doctor says she has a 50% chance of regaining her vision …

We have an appointment with the specialist on Monday, in Portland, Maine.

I know that God can do anything.
There is nothing too hard for Him.

Of course, when I asked Carol if it was ok to post this, she asked about other people who needed prayer, not her.

I am also not “losing sight” of the fact that she is my beloved “proof-reader,” who was to begin working on the final manuscript of my new book, on Friday, the same day.

Satan is such a jerk!

Let’s get together and give him a black eye, the jerk!

Please pray for the healing of Carol’s right eye, and let’s prepare for the praise report to follow!

Thank you so much.
All of you.

Blessings,
Ted

Guest Post: My Trip to the Philippines | THE CRUNCHY CHRISTIAN

“This trip was hard for a number of reasons but I’ve never felt so encouraged and uplifted in all my life. It’s an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world … Our God is a missionary and so we are missionaries… there are still whole people groups that have never heard of Jesus; of the Lord who has died for them. But the good news is that we can have a part. We must either go or send. We must be either goers or senders. It takes both to successfully spread the gospel into new frontiers …”

We’d like to share this post from Pastor Thailer, from “THE CRUNCHY CHRISTIAN,” one of our favorite blogs, writing about his missionary trip to the Phillipines.
We always encourage you to pray-every day-for Pastors, Missionaries, and  Evangelists around the world. For God to give them safety, protection, wisdom and understanding, and boldness. And, please pray for those who support them! As I read his words, I am again reminded of how fortunate and blessed we are here in the United States. And, let’s face it: So many of us just don’t realize how blessed we are, and how different … how so very different it is in so many ways, in other countries around the globe …
