Guest Bible Study: Gregory Dickow: God’s “Will”

I have been enjoying Pastor Gregory Dickow’s latest “Fast From Wrong Thinking” series, which is a series of individual Bible studies to help change the way we think, and the way we “view things.”
His first series was a “40 Day Fast From Wrong Thinking,” and, so far, this latest series is on “Day 95.” It has helped me a lot, and I have used this as part of my daily Bible study since its start. Really Good!

So, if it helps and blesses me, then I trust it will do the same for you.

I wanted to share this particular “day” with you, as it seems to go so well with our own short series, “Wealth Stored for the Righteous.” Basically, to be thankful for what you ALREADY HAVE!!!

At the end, I put a direct link, if you’d like to sign up. I love the way the study moves through, and includes promises and verses, from all over the Bible … so, it’s a great way to start the day …

1. Put first things first. God’s will is His Word. (Testament means will.) It’s not a mystery. If you left a will for your loved ones, it would focus on what you are doing for them, rather than what they need to do for you. FOCUS ON WHAT GOD HAS DONE. Read the will or the testament, as if it were listing what NOW belongs to you, since Jesus died and rose again (Hebrews 9:14–20.)

2. The will of God begins with a state of being, not a state of doing. Our focus should be on what God said we ARE and what God said we HAVE. Then that will produce what God wants us to DO. When you know you ARE what God says you are, and you HAVE what God says you have, then you will DO the will of God. The right decisions will be the by-product of the right thinking.

3. As you fill your heart up with the Word of God, He will lead you safely into His will! Psalm 119:9–11 says, “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not SIN against Thee.” Sin = missing the mark. You won’t MISS the will, or the mark, when you hide the Word in your heart!

4. The “will” of God is activated in our life through the giving of thanks. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In everything give thanks, for this is the WILL OF GOD for you, in Christ Jesus.” Notice, He doesn’t say, “Give thanks FOR everything,” but rather, “give thanks IN everything.” No matter what you are facing right now, the will of God is to give thanks IN the midst of it.

5. The will of God is bigger and broader than most people think. At a large airport, there are several runways that a plane can safely land on. Get rid of the mind-set that there’s only one runway, and you might miss it and crash! There are several runways in the will of God, and therefore many options that are equally acceptable to God, based on His Word.

THINK IT AND SAY IT
I am not going to miss God’s will for my life! His Word is His will, and I accept and embrace His Word as the cornerstone of my life.
I AM what God’s Word says I am, and I HAVE what God’s Word says I have. He will keep me in His Will, as I keep His Word in my heart.
I choose a life of thanks and praise, which puts me in the middle of God’s will AND brings God’s will into the middle of my situation, in Jesus’ Name!

Here’s a direct link to Gregory Dickow’s online ministry, and the “Fast From Wrong Thinking” Series:
What happens is this: If you sign up for the series, you will get an individual study for each day, to “attack/change” a certain mind-set. One of the things I like is that I get the series, and nothing more … when I view “today’s” lesson, it has the lesson only … and not a group of links … Please allow this study to help you!

Guest Post: Gregory Dickow on Healing and Prayer

We all know what it’s like to experience pain.
Whether it’s the physical pain of sickness or injury; the emotional pain of losing someone we love; the mental pain of anguish or anxiety or worry; the spiritual pain of losing our faith or being shipwrecked in our hope or being disappointed in a promise that doesn’t seem to be showing up in our lives; the pain of broken relationships … we have all experienced or are experiencing one of these pains today. Or you’ve witnessed this kind of pain in the lives of those that you come in contact with daily.

We live in a broken world and hurting world. But in all that pain and suffering:
God has an answer for every pain you’ve ever felt.
God has a solution, a remedy and a healing for every pain you’ve ever experienced! No one wants to keep hurting. Yet people try to deal with their suffering and pain without God’s help. We go to other sources, people and remedies, when it is God who wants to be our Healer, and only He that truly can.

He is Jehovah Rapha — the God who heals. He wants to be the One we look to. God says, “I am the Lord that heals you” (Exodus 15:26). This world is hurting. And when a person is hurting, they can hardly think of anything else. When we are hurting, we often bring pain to others.
The answer to your pain and hurting is to FIND the REMEDY in God’s TOUCH, in God’s HEALING, in what Jesus DID FOR YOU on The Cross.

He Himself bore our pain in His body and carried away our sicknesses and diseases. “By His stripes we were healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5). He bore our pain and so He knows what it’s like to hurt. He felt every rejection you’ve ever felt. He felt every temptation you’ve ever felt. He felt every betrayal you’ve ever felt. And then He took your pain and mine and all of our pain combined and nailed it to the Cross. He was wounded for our transgressions, and by His stripes we were healed! Isn’t that amazing? We have a Savior that knows what you feel and experience.

He knows what it’s like to hurt.
He knows what it’s like to feel pain.
He knows what it’s like to be tempted.
He knows what it’s like to suffer.
He knows what it’s like to be betrayed.
He knows what it’s like to be despised and hated.
He knows what your pain feels like because He has felt it Himself. And He wants you to know that He took that pain and sorrow upon Himself. There’s no reason for you to BEAR IT when He HAS BORNE IT FOR YOU.

Now it’s time to feel what life is like beyond the pain. Are you ready to be healed and to be a healer?
Whenever you’re hurting, call on God.
Whenever you’re suffering, pray.
Whenever you feel down and out, ask for God’s help.
Whenever you feel defined by your past, let God redefine you.
Whenever you feel you’re going backwards, call on God to move ahead.
Whenever somebody has wronged you, forgive them.
Whenever somebody has hurt you, call on God to help you.
When you’ve caused hurt, call on God to heal you and those you’ve hurt.

David said, “I love the Lord because He hears my cry” in Psalm 116:1. One of the reasons why I love the Lord is because He hears me when I’m in pain. James 5:13 says “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.” When you’re suffering, pray. When you feel pain, PRAY. Psalm 30:2:“O LORD my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.” God HEARS and He HEALS.God does not want you to settle for the pain that He has already paid for by nailing His Son to the Cross. He has borne it for you. He wants to heal you of it.

Part of the blessing of God is for HIM to heal you; and then use you to bring healing to others who are hurting still. God wants you to
GIVE UP YOUR PAIN TO GOD, and ASK HIM TO LET YOU IMPACT OTHERS, with HIS HEALING HAND. We can’t remove the burdens of this broken world in our own ability. We need the anointing of the Holy Spirit to heal the pain. You can live beyond the pain! Today, ask the Lord to heal you; and give you the power bring healing to the hurting around you.
Ask God to Help You Stop Hurting and Start Healing TODAY.

Not Resolution … But, Revelation

“We don’t need a New Year’s resolution … we need a new Revelation … of who Jesus is … and, what we are, in Him.”
R.V.R..

Here is a summary of the facts, received from College of the Open Bible:
(Guess which Bible study I’m doing this week?)

Did you know that Jesus Christ was older than His mother and the same age as His Father when He was born?
Amazing biblical facts about Jesus Christ to share this season:

The most significant question of the universe continues to be: What think ye of Christ? Your answer to this most important question will not only determine your eternal destiny, but also reflects the way you live now. One of the most powerful thoughts a Christian possesses is the fact that Jesus Christ can never be less than who He is … He is LORD.

The Pre-existence of Jesus Christ as God:
1. As taught by John the Baptist: John 1:15.
2. As taught by the apostle John: John 1:1.
3. As taught by the apostle Paul: 1 Timothy 3:16.
4. As taught by Christ Himself: John 8:58.
What was Christ Jesus the Savior doing before His Bethlehem appearance?
a. He created the universe: John 1:3; Colossians 1:16. This creation included everything, from electrons to galaxies, and from angels to Adam.
b. He was controlling this created universe: Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 1:17.
c. He was communing with the Father: John 17:24.

The Incarnation: That God the Son could take upon himself the full nature of man and yet retain the full nature of God. The Bible declares that Christ was as much God as if He had never been man, and as much man as if He had never been God. When God the Son joined himself to a body at Bethlehem, it was an eternal arrangement. He will continue to manifest Himself in this body (its resurrected state) throughout eternity.

The prophecies concerning the Incarnation:
a. Old Testament
* By Isaiah the prophet: Isaiah 7:14.
* By Micah the prophet: Micah 5:2.

b. New Testament: Heavenly announcements were given to at least eight individuals or groups concerning the Incarnation in the New Testament.
* To Zacharias: Luke 1:17, 76.
* To Mary: Luke 1:31-35.
* To Joseph: Matthew 1:20, 21.
* To the shepherds: Luke 2:10-12.

Why the virgin birth (Incarnation)?    God never does anything without a good reason, and in this case, there are profound reasons for the Incarnation.

a. To reveal the invisible God: John 1:18, 14:9.
b. To fulfill prophecy: Genesis 3:15.
c. To guarantee the Davidic covenant: Luke 1:31-33.
d. To make a sacrifice for our sins: 1 John 3:5.
e. To reconcile man to God: 1 Timothy 2:5-6.
f. To provide an example for believers: 1 Peter 2:21.
g. To provide the believer with a high priest: Hebrews 2:17.
h. To destroy the devil and his works: 1 John 3:8.
i. To escape the historical curse: Romans 5:12.
j. To heal the brokenhearted: Luke 4:18.
k. To set a liberty the bruised: Luke 4:18.
l. To give abundant life: John 3:36.
m. To glorify the Father: John 13:31, 17:4.

The Humanity of Jesus Christ: Jesus was a real man!
1. He had a human parentage: Luke 1:31; Galatians 4:4.
2. He had a human body, soul, and spirit: Matthew 26:12; John 12:27; Matthew 2:8.
3. He looked like a man: John 4:9, 20:15.
4. He possessed flesh and blood: Hebrews 2:14.
5. He grew: Luke 2:40.
6. He asked questions: Luke 2:46.
7. He prayed: John 17.
8. He was tempted: Matthew 4:1.
9. He hungered: Matthew 4:2.
10. He thirsted: John 4:7.
11. He was weary: John 4:6
12. He slept: Matthew 8:24.
13. He wept: John 11:35.
14. He suffered: 1 Peter 4:1.
15. He bled: John 19:34.
16. He died: Matthew 27:50.

The Deity of Jesus Christ: Jesus Is God!
1. Christ is Omnipotent (all powerful).
a. Over disease: Luke 4:39.
b. Over demons: Matthew 8:16-17.
c. Over men: Matthew 9:9; John 17:2.
d. Over nature: Matthew 8:26.
e. Over sin: Matthew 9:1-8.
f. Over traditions: Matthew 9:10-17.
g. Over death: Luke 7:14-15.
h. Over all your problems: Romans 8:28.
2. Christ is Omniscient (all knowing): John 2:24, 16:30.
3. Christ is Omnipresent: John 3:13, 14:20.
4. Christ is Worshipped as God:
a. By the angels: Hebrews 1:6.
b. By men: Luke 2:15; Matthew 2:2, 11.
5. Christ forgives sins: Mark 2:5, 11; 1 John 1:9.
6. Christ judges: John 5:22.
7. Christ saves: John 10:28.

The Death of Jesus Christ – The death of Christ has the prominent place in the Word of God. Indeed, the death of Christ is the essential foundation in Christianity. The death of Christ is the subject of supreme interest in heaven and must be in the hearts of believers.

The Old Testament reveals the plan of Christ crucified, while the New Testament reveals the man, Christ, crucified.

1. The Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) foreshadow Christ crucified.
2. The Prophets foretell of Christ crucified.
3. The Psalms express the feelings of Christ crucified.
4. The Gospels give the facts of Christ crucified.
5. The Epistles give the fruit of Christ crucified.

The death of Jesus Christ is important for three compelling and significant reasons:
1. Christ crucified satisfied our sin debt.
2. Christ crucified satisfied the holiness of God.
3. Christ crucified satisfied the human heart (those who receive Christ).

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ:
The importance of the resurrection: 1 Cor. 15:12-19.
If one denies the resurrection, he is forced to six horrible conclusions:

1. All gospel preaching has been, is now, and always will be, completely useless.
2. All past, present, and future faith is futile.
3. All preachers become notorious liars.
4. All living Christians are still in their sins.
5. All departed Christians are in hell.
6. All reason and purpose for life itself is destroyed.

The order of the resurrection: The resurrection of Christ is represented in 1 Corinthians 15:20-24 as being the first of its kind, thus indicating that previous miracles, such as the raising of Lazarus, were more on the order of restoring a dead mortal body to a living mortal body. True resurrection carries with it glorification.

There are three such resurrections:
1. The resurrection of Christ: Matthew 28:5-8.
2. The rapture / resurrection: 1 Corinthians 15:53; 1 Thessalonians 4:13, 18.
3. The pre-millennial resurrection of Old Testament and tribulation saints:  Rev 20:5-6.

The Ascension and Present Ministry of Jesus Christ:
a. The fact of His ascension and ministry: Mark 16:19; Acts 1:9; Romans 8:34.
b. The purpose of His ascension and ministry:
1. To be our Forerunner: Hebrews 6:19-20.
2. To prepare a place for us: John 14:2.
3. To give spiritual gifts to His followers: Ephesians 4:10-13.
4. To offer encouragement to His followers: Hebrews 4:14-16.
5. To make high priestly prayers for us: Romans 8:34.

The theme of God’s Word is Jesus Christ Crucified, God Satisfied, The Believing Sinner Justified.

Sincerely,
Dr. Arthur Belanger

Special Video Testimony: The Power and Opportunity of Resources

Here is a powerful, compelling video testimony produced by “The JESUS Film Project.”
Here is Cheeia, telling her story, of how she accepted Jesus as her Savior, and the way this decision has changed her life, and the lives of many others. It reminds us again how important that just being friendly to others can be … how important it is to read your Bible every day … and to share the gospel message with others … to not be afraid to share what you have with your family … at her family reunion, 37 family members accepted Christ … and, so far, over 60 members of her family have become Christians …

This also makes me realize how powerful-and important-the resources we have now, which we didn’t have even 20 years ago, can be in sharing the gospel, and reaching the world. And, it is the world which we can reach, with all these resources … available in so many different languages …

I remember how important it was to us, when, years ago, a missionary or guest speaker would visit our church, and how thrilled we were that the Bible was “now available” in so many different languages! How important that was! And, how about those radio broadcasts being “beamed” into those countries … Now … it’s not just printed media that is available … but CD, DVD, MP3 downloads, apps for your hand-held device … all capable of bringing the gospel message into lands and peoples not even accessible to missionaries!

That should be thrilling, but for some reason … the thought of a movie telling the gospel message … well, it seems we don’t feel exactly the same way about that sometimes … but, how powerful the message is … “portrayed” and explained in the listeners’ own language … I think that’s a great idea, and there is always a “live” Christian speaker when these films are shown to an audience. I think about how I’ve let a friend or someone at work borrow a “gospel” video, and I’ve seen how the message of the video or DVD has affected them … even without me being there to “hammer home” the message … I think the gospel message is powerful enough to get the point across in any medium … after all, it’s not our power that “hits” them, is it?

Enjoy this remarkable story from a young college student, who realized the power-and opportunities she received … when she received Christ …

Special Video Explanation: Why To Read, and love God’s Word

Here is a great video we received from christianity.com, featuring Ron Jones, Pastor and teacher, founder of www.somethinggoodradio.org. Here, Pastor Jones is explaining the importance of reading God’s Word, and why we should … every day.

This is a four minute video, which began with the question of what book new believers should begin reading, and confirms what we always tell new believers … start with the Gospels, especially the book of John.
Be blessed!

Special Prayer Meeting Invitation: Heart of God/Heart of Boston: Prayer, Pulpits, Politics, and Petition

A friend of ours sent us an email invitation to a special prayer meeting being held Wednesday night, April 17, at Tremont Temple Baptist Church, located in downtown Boston. I just got this, so by the time I post, it’ll be “tonight.” The email was originally sent from the Pastor of Tremont Temple, Denton Lotz, and then forwarded to us.

We wanted to share this because of what the invitation says … what it really says … about our hope, faith, and courage … in spite of circumstances which may surround us.

“Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Members of Tremont Temple Baptist Church!

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of he Almighty
You will not be afraid of the terror by night,
Or of the arrow that flies by day …” (Psalm 91:1)

A great tragedy has come to Boston. The terror of bombs going off at the Boston Marathon, the tragic loss of lives, the destruction, the terror that struck the heart of the people of Boston reminds us again of a world without God and without hope.
Yet, as Christians we are a people of hope. We believe that Jesus Christ has overcome all the powers of evil and darkness. We believe that in Christ the power of God is present and gives us power to overcome. We will not be defeated or terrorized by a few evil people. We will put our hope and faith in the God who is victorious on a cross!
Therefore, tomorrow, Wednesday evening, we will continue to have our regular prayer meeting at 6:30. It will be a Special Prayer Meeting to pray for the families who are mourning the death of their loved ones. We will pray for the recovery of the wounded. We will pray for the solace of those in fear and still suffering. We will pray for Boston and that peace and order will return.
You are invited to bring friends to this Special Service of Prayer to be held at 6:30 in Currie Chapel!
May the Peace of Christ be with you!

Denton Lotz, Pastor”

After I read the invitation, I found the Church’s website, to gain information about the church. Loved the website, the videos of the choir, their mission and ministry outreaches … and then, I read the history of the church. And, boy did I get a history lesson!

I began to think, to realize again, what a large part of our nation’s history churches have been. I know, we are the “church,” the body of Christ. Yet, I began to think about how large a role the actual church buildings have played in our history. Think about it … before there were city buildings, often, the only place large enough to hold a public meeting was the church, so often located at the very center of town. Yes, the symbolism rings … at one time, the church was at the very center of our lives, just like our town squares. How many of you can remember when the church was called “the meeting place,” or, a more modern slang (in my time), when you were going to church, you were “going to meeting.”

In many towns and cities, like Boston and Hartford, the seeds of so many “movements” were either planted or cultivated in the church building, during these public meetings. I remember walking the “History Trail” through Boston, and being aware of how many churches were included in the walk. And, of standing inside the Old North Church … looking up at the church tower, thinking of lanterns, and how these churches are still sounding “warnings” today …

A few notes from the “Our Story” page at Tremont Temple:

“Tremont Temple Baptist Church has a rich history that has made it a leader in the Boston area for social justice, evangelism, and human rights. In the 1830s the struggle for social justice was seen in the fight for the abolition of slavery. In 1838 a group of men led by Timothy Gilbert started the Baptist Free Church. It was “free” in that there was no rent charged for pews, but more than that it was for the freedom of all people, being the first integrated church in America.
A group of 82 charter members organized the church in 1839.

Throughout its history many famous individuals spoke or performed here, including the singer Jenny Lind. Abraham Lincoln spoke here. The first reading in Boston of the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 took place here. Charles Dickens read for the first time in Boston his famous Christmas Carol here. Dwight L. Moody called the church “America’s pulpit.”

Tremont Temple is now in a period of renewal. We are united in our efforts to become a church that holds together the Biblical concerns of mission and evangelism. At the same time we are concerned about mirroring the Kingdom of God and thus our concern for social justice issues.

God has blessed Tremont Temple throughout our long history. We are aware, however, that history will not save us. Rather, it is our commitment to the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ that makes our church relevant to the city of Boston. We exist for the sole purpose of glorifying God and making Christ known to the people of Boston and the surrounding area. We have always been a church that welcomes all people. We are pleased that God has places in our midst an international community. What a joy to worship with the people of God from every continent and many nations. We invite you to join us for worship and experience the warm international fellowship that we have become!”

Here is a direct link to their website:
http://www.tremonttemple.org/

P.S. Hey, I just thought of something, in regard to church being so important in our daily lives “so long ago” … Growing up, I went to school, home, church, school, home, church … every now and then, get to go to the store or shopping (not often) … then, school, home, church, school, home, church …
Today … Guess what? school, home, church, school, home, church, every now and then go to store (mostly gas station) or shopping … then school, home, church … I know I am grateful for the first … maybe I become more grateful for the second …
